John Cena gets under Philly’s skin with a Donovan McNabb reference

Poor Donovan McNabb. One of the greatest athletes in Philadelphia history, he'll be forever tainted in the City of Brotherly Love by his failure to win a Super Bowl. And at this week's WWE Monday Night Raw, held in Philly at the Wells Fargo Center, John Cena zeroed in on the city's still-unhealed scab and jabbed straight at it.

Cena is on his own quest for ultimate victory, and he compared himself to McNabb as another guy who couldn't quite close the deal. The crowd booed both McNabb's name and his failure to win the Big Game. Cena will be facing off against The Rock for the WWE Championship in April, and if he loses, Cena believes he'll fall into McNabb territory.

"Statistically, Donovan McNabb is the greatest quarterback ever to put on an Eagles uniform," Cena said as boos cascaded downward. "But listen to how the people in his own city, that he played for, remember him. Donovan McNabb could not win the big one ... Philly fans have passion, and with that passion, they deserve someone who can win the big one. If I lose, I will carry the legacy of Donovan McNabb, state to state, arena to arena. I will get reaction after reaction of disdain."

It's up to wrestling aficionados to decide the validity of the comparison. But as long as Cena doesn't throw up in the ring, we think he'll stay out of McNabb territory.
