A fan has died as a result of injuries suffered from a fall at Candlestick Park. The fan fell from an elevated walkway shortly after kickoff, and attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
San Francisco police said that multiple people witnessed the fall, and that the man appeared intoxicated prior to the fall. The man was described as being in his mid-30s, though his identity was withheld in order to notify relatives of his passing.
"The San Francisco 49ers learned that there was a fatal accident outside of Candlestick Park prior to today's game," the team said in a statement. "We would like to express our deepest condolences to the family during this difficult time."
A fan died in a similar fall from Atlanta's Turner Field in August. The 49ers will be leaving Candlestick after this season to take up residence at the Levi's Center.
