Earlier this year, the wide receiver starred opposite the former "American Idol" winner in a video for her song "Bittersweet." This, coupled with other off-season activities like modeling
and not working hard and falling asleep in meetings and generally having a bad attitude caused him to get off on the wrong foot with Shanahan, Thomas recently said.
In Shanahan's defense, Thomas was more convincing as a spurned lover rather than as an NFL receiver:
If Thomas had paid attention to the message of the video maybe he'd still be with the Redskins. In the video, Fantasia spurns Thomas' marriage proposal because the trappings of fame have become too much for her to handle. She can either have a man or stardom, but not both. Reluctantly (or bittersweetly, as it were) she chooses to focus on her career.
“I’ll take [Shanahan's advice to focus on football] to heart, and now that I have a second chance, I’ll make sure I do everything professionally," Thomas said. [...]
"I’m focusing on football, Thomas said. "All that stuff can come later in life. I’m looking to just become a great receiver.”
Kelly Rowland, you hear that? What about you, Mary J. Blige? Devin Thomas won't be around to be your male video vixen any longer. But give Freddie Mitchell a call. I'm sure he's looking for something to do.
Thanks, The Huddle
