Detroit Lions RB Mikel Leshoure scores three first-half touchdowns; Megatron still shut out with Stafford

If you saw that the Detroit Lions had a 21-0 lead over the Jacksonville Jaguars at halftime, and you were told that receiver Calvin Johnson had a big yardage day, youd automatically assume that Megatron finally found the end zone with Matthew Stafford throwing him the ball. Sadly for Johnson, that is not the case.

He had six catches for 111 yards in the game's first 30 minutes, but he never made it into the end zone, continuing a weird streak that has extended through the 2012 season -- after catching 16 touchdown passes in 2011, Johnson hasn't caught a single score from Matthew Stafford in 2012. The only touchdown catch Megatron has this season came from backup Shaun Hill.

Meanwhile, Lions running back Mikel Leshoure has had quite the career day, scoring three times in the red zone. The first touchdown happened with 12:31 left in the first half, as Leshoure bulled through for seven yards. On the Lions' next drive, Megatron came soooo very close to the end zone, but was stopped on the Jacksonville 1-yard line by Jags safety Chris Prosinski. Leshoure leeched his second score one play later.

On the very next drive, Leshoure got the troika with an eight-yard run with 35 seconds left in the game.

The Lions wound up beating the Jags, 31-14. They got a fourth touchdown in the game, which came from ... running back Joique Bell.

"We were scoring touchdowns," Lions head coach Jim Schwartz said after the Lions beat the Seattle Seahawks last Sunday, and receiver Titus Young scored twice. "That's the only thing that mattered --scoring enough to get the win. We're not playing fantasy football, trying to get players a certain number of stats or anything. We're just trying to win."

"Well, I think he's had four that he's gotten tackled on the one," Detroit offensive coordinator Scott Linehan said on Thursday of Johnson's struggles to score. "He's had a couple that were close in the end zone that we weren't able to execute. So you have two or three of those that were caught on the 1-yard line you're in the end zone, he's making plays that he normally makes. Not necessarily concerning. The thing that I'm most happy about it is Titus being able to catch a couple touchdowns and (Ryan) Broyles has two. They're obviously giving us matchups at other positions and putting a lot of the attention on Calvin and it opens things up for other guys."

Megatron's too good for this to continue much longer, but his touchdowns drought becomes even more curious as the Lions' offense begins an impressive turnaround from its early-season struggles.
