Christian Ponder out win concussion; Matt Cassel, not Josh Freeman, is his replacement

The Minnesota Vikings were forced to make yet another quarterback change Sunday when starter Christian Ponder was being treated for a possible concussion after a second-quarter hit against the Chicago Bears.

Matt Cassel came in right before halftime and played the rest of the game.

Cassel, as in not Josh Freeman. The Vikings jumped to sign Freeman when he unexpectedly hit the free-agent market after his unceremonious exit from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

And the Vikings thought enough of Freeman — or at least were curious about him — to start him over Ponder in the Week 7 loss to the New York Giants, a mere week after Freeman arrived.

But since then ... cobwebs. Freeman hasn't seen the field, and unless Cassel goes down it appears he will not sniff the field anytime soon.
