Denver Broncos quarterback Peyton Manning has turned Omaha into one of the most talked about cities during the NFL postseason.
As a result, Manning’s charity has benefited financially from those references.
Manning’s Peyback Foundation, which promotes the future success of disadvantaged youth, earned $24,800 during the AFC championship game due to the amount of times he yelled “Omaha” against New England, according to ABC News. Eight businesses agreed to donate a combined $800 for each time Manning said the word "Omaha" at the line of scrimmage. Manning reportedly said “Omaha” 31 times on Sunday.
According to ABC News, the businesses based in Omaha that donated the money included Omaha Steaks, Mutual of Omaha, FNB Omaha, CenturyLink, ConAgra Foods, Union Pacific, DJ's Dugout and Cox Communications.
In addition, Manning’s consistent references to Omaha has benefited the city financially.
“This has been terrific for us,” David G. Brown, president and CEO of the Greater Omaha Chamber of Commerce, which headed up the effort, told ABC News. “Before Friday, we had calculated that news coverage of Omaha had generated the equivalent of about $10 million in advertising.”
Denver and Seattle will meet in the Super Bowl, but Manning is bringing Omaha with him.
