Chicago Bears receiver Brandon Marshall wore green shoes last Thursday against the Giants, which he said was in the name of Mental Health Awareness Week. The NFL let him know that he could wear the shoes, but he would be fined.
And the NFL, which doesn't miss many chances to fine a player for uniform code violations, sent in a pretty hefty fine of $10,500.
The odd twist on this case is that Marshall tweeted out a picture of the fine letter. You don't generally get to see these, and it's interesting to get a glimpse at how thorough the explanation is, including reminding the player of his team's "dominant footwear color." And who knew the NFL had a secure website for players to appeal fines?
