Oft criticized for not having enough toughness during a dissapointing 4-12 campaign last season, the Atlanta Falcons bolstered their hopes of a playoff return by literally adding cupcakes to the lineup. Wait, what?
That's right: The Falcons will be selling alcohol-infused cupcakes at the Georgia Dome this fall, because nothing says smashmouth quite like some batter to the face whipped up by Delights by Dawn.
The only booze-infused dessert these taste buds have tried was a Guinness cupcake with Bailey's frosting on St. Patrick's Day, and that packed about as much as Mark Sanchez at a butt fumbling party.
But Dawn Belisle seems like a sweet lady with a tooth to match. Operating under the slogan, "intoxicating desserts to warm the soul," the attorney turned baker trademarked Toxycakes — including flavors like Apple Fireball Cinnamon, Chocolate Cherry Bourbon and White Almond Amaretto — available online for $37.50 a dozen.
"There's alcohol in the batter of the cupcake— and as we all know, once that bakes, some of the alcohol will evaporate out," Belisle told The Real, one of several publications that have come calling since her cupcakes made it to the Georgia Dome. "I then infuse the cupcakes a few more times. I put the alcohol back in.
"I’ve never heard anyone say that it gives them a buzz. People who are non-drinkers really taste the alcohol, and drinkers can also taste it, but not in the sense that they will get a buzz.
"We still treat it like alcohol when we sell it to people. We card everyone and if we think someone is over the edge from drinking, then we'll make the call whether or not to sell that person a cupcake."
Her website even includes a testimonial from Falcons linebacker Mike Peterson, and the red and white velvet vodka cupcakes are the biggest fan favorite for obvious reasons.
The Falcons need a little infusion this season. And if the healthy return of Roddy White and Julio Jones along with some reinforcements in the trenches can't save them from another sub-.500 winter, the Atlanta faithful might just need to fill their tailgates with as many alcohol-related items as they can get.
Somewhere, a light just came on in the head of a Denver Broncos fan who loves him some brownies.
