The Jets are one of the pleasant surprises in the NFL, with a 3-2 record coming off a nice road win at Atlanta. The air left that balloon pretty suddenly when star cornerback Antonio Cromartie went down in practice on Thursday with what might be a serious knee injury.
ESPN New York said the team is concerned about the injury, which was suffered in practice. It was a non-contact injury, the report said. Cromartie will have a MRI.
And if Cromartie has to miss some time, the Jets are perilously thin at cornerback.
Rookie cornerback Dee Milliner, a first-round pick, struggled early on and then suffered a hamstring injury. He has missed two games and there's no guarantee he'll play this week.
The Jets are on a nice roll to start the season but Cromartie's injury could change all of that, if the MRI confirms their worst fears.
UPDATE: Fortunately for the Jets, it appears Cromartie escaped serious injury:
Team was concerned about Cromartie's knee when he went down in practice, but he told teammates this AM he'll be okay. #nyj
