Virginia knocked off a ranked team for the first time since November 2011 when it beat No. 21 Louisville at home Saturday afternoon. Throughout the ballgame, Cavaliers head coach Mike London found a simple and effective way to honor America’s military.
September 11 was Thursday, and many college football programs around the country have been showing signs of patriotism to commemorate those who passed away on September 11, 2001. London’s way of showing respect was to wear the hat of a different branch of the military in each quarter of the game.
It was a very cool tribute by London, whose Cavaliers improved to 2-1 and won an ACC game for the first time since November 10, 2012. Virginia won just two games in 2013, so London’s team is off to a good start in 2014.
The Cavaliers will play BYU on the road next Saturday.
