It's been a whirlwind week for Robert Griffin III. He won the Davey O'Brien Award. He won the Heisman. He's had a full-page ad in the New York Times. He's appeared on a multitude of morning shows. And Monday night, he delivered the annual cap on the Late Show with David Letterman, where he read the "Top Ten Thoughts That Went Through Robert Griffin III's Mind When He Won The Heisman Trophy."
Griffin, whose Heisman acceptance speech showed off his excellent oration skills, came out in a tuxedo and though he didn't flash his socks, it's probably a safe bet they had some cartoon or comic book character on them. Griffin had a lot of fun with the bit and delivered his lines flawlessly. A couple of the funnier lines included, No. 8: "Wonder how much I could get for the trophy on 'Pawn Stars'?" No. 6: "Thanks to Tim Tebow for putting in a word with the man upstairs." And No. 1: "How long before Kim Kardashian calls?" which I'm sure sat well with Griffin's fiancée. The one line that probably made Baylor fans cringe was No. 3, "Indianapolis Colts, here I come."
Griffin, a fourth-year junior, still hasn't declared whether he intends to leave a year early for the NFL, though many believe it's a forgone conclusion since he's already earned a degree in political science and will likely be a first-round pick if he comes out. Griffin's also already suffered a major knee injury that cost him a season and probably doesn't want to take that chance again.
While Griffin has spent the last week being the toast of New York, he still has work to do back in Waco, as the Bears prepare to face Washington in the Alamo Bowl on Dec. 29. Since the Heisman announcement, ticket sales have boomed for the bowl game and prices for 50-yard-line seats on the Baylor side of the Alamo Bowl are going for upwards of $800 on some broker sites.
