Three Texas players suspended to start the season

As fall camp opens for Texas, three players are suspended.

The university announced Sunday that OT Desmond Harrison, WR Daje Johnson and S Josh Turner are suspended for the beginning of the season, though they will practice with the team. The length of the suspensions will be announced at a later date.

Turner was initially reported to be one of the Longhorns dismissed from the team in July, however it was reported this week that he was still a member of the team. Texas coach Charlie Strong also confirmed that RB Joe Bergeron, DB Chevoski Collins, and RB Jalen Overstreet had all been dismissed. The three players were released from their scholarships.

Harrison played in seven games last season. Johnson had 24 catches in nine games in 2013 and was suspended for the team's game against Texas Tech and did not play against Oregon in the Alamo Bowl. Turner, a senior safety, is a projected starter and had 37 tackles in 12 games last year.

The school also announced that WR Montrel Meanders and WR Kendall Sanders are no longer with the team and LB Kendall Thompson is no longer playing because of injuries. Thompson played in 11 games last season and suffered a concussion against Texas Tech.
