The Texas A&M college football-loving world believes new starting quarterback Kenny Hill needs a nickname and won’t rest until he picks one. And he’s already refused Johnny Manziel’s offer to pass on the “Football” moniker.
So, during the Aggies press conference today, Hill, who threw for more than 500 yards in his first career start against South Carolina, begrudgingly chose one:
Kenny Hill said of all the nicknames he might prefer Kenny Trill the most right now.— Brent Zwerneman (@BrentZwerneman) September 2, 2014
The term “trill” refers to a person who keeps it real and was popularized by the Houston rap group UGK. UGK was a favorite of former quarterback Johnny Manziel and apparently Hill, who grew up in Southlake, Texas, just a few hours from Houston, is a big fan as well.
Rapper Bun B, who is half of the group UGK, said on Twitter was OK with Hill using the term, but wanted to make sure he earned it first.
Like the idea of "Kenny Trill" but I think @coachsumlin would agree one good game alone doesn't make you trill. He's on his way though!— Bun B (@BunBTrillOG) September 2, 2014
But the name appears to be a hit with A&M.
Kenny Trill is his name Aggie Fans.... Get it right.— De'Vante Harris (@GhostBoysENT) September 2, 2014
Even offensive coordinator Jake Spavital said he liked the name even though he didn’t know what it meant.
A&M OC Jake Spavital said he'll roll with 'Kenny Trill,' but he had to ask Hill what 'Trill' meant.— Brent Zwerneman (@BrentZwerneman) September 2, 2014
So, I guess that’s that.
All hail new Texas A&M quarterback Kenny Trill. We’ll see if he lives up to the nickname of keeping it real.
