Temple can’t find a 12th game for this season

Temple's quest to find a 12th game for this season has fallen short.

The university announced Tuesday that negotiations with Hawaii to become the Owls' 12 game have fallen through and the Owls will play just 11 games this season.

"Temple University went above and beyond normal scheduling procedures in an effort to provide our student-athletes with the opportunity to play in a 12th football game this season," director of athletic Bill Bradshaw said. "Unfortunately that will not be possible as our negotiations with the University of Hawaii have ended. We felt that we had an agreement in place with the University of Hawaii, but in the end its administration was unable to fulfill it due to unforeseen circumstances."

Temple was scrambling to find a 12th game because when it made the abrupt move from the Mid-American Conference to the Big East last summer, it moved from eight league games to seven and didn't have enough time to find a replacement game.

Hawaii seemed like a logical choice because the Warriors and teams that play them are allowed a 13th game. And Temple could have used an extra game to try to gain bowl eligibility. The Owls are currently 3-6 and will finish the season a week before their Big East counterparts.
