Boyd saw Clowney three times during his career and in 2012, the year that started Clowney’s legend, the star defensive end put the quarterback on his back four and a half times.
"He is absolutely the No. 1 pick,” Boyd told Jay Mohr Sports. “He is the most complete football player in this draft. If he's across from a guy like (Texans DE) J.J. Watt ... he would take him under his wing and teach him his work ethic. If you put Clowney in a situation like that, the sky is the limit for him."
Boyd threw for 3,851 yards and 34 touchdowns last season and set the ACC career touchdowns passing record. Boyd was once projected as a first-round pick, but as other quarterbacks, especially some from smaller schools, have emerged during workouts, Boyd’s stock has slipped. Boyd told Jay Mohr Sports he thought his draft status freefall was humorous.
"I think it's hilarious honestly,” Boyd said. “If I get on the field with any of those guys I'm going to win every time. Whenever I step on the field I am going to be sure I make some noise and do some damage."
