Southern Miss introduces new uniforms in an effort to distance itself from its winless season

Southern Miss, the only winless team in the FBS last year, got a new coach in the offseason and now its getting new uniforms, and dumping Nike (or it might be the other way around) as part of the cleansing process.

Southern Miss announced a new 5-year partnership with Russell Athletic, which has outfitted the football and basketball teams with new threads.

The new football jerseys, which are the standard black and white, feature large numbers on the front, back and shoulder pads as well as a stripe on the shoulders. It also has some weird piping that goes toward the armpits and across the back, which makes the uniform look a little busier than it needs to be.

The uniforms also have “Southern Miss” across the chest and the helmets are pretty much the same as before.

Overall, the uniforms have a bit of a throwback feel to them. There are some designs in the numbers, which make them look a little more modern, but for the most part, Southern Miss might be trying to channel the teams that didn’t go winless. You know, just for good luck.

What do you think of Southern Miss' new threads?
