Southern Miss is going retro for its homecoming game

I've been gone for the past week and apparently in my absence, Southern Miss decided to step into the way back machine and find itself some new-old uniforms for its homecoming game against Marshall on Oct. 20.

The throwback uniforms will honor the greatest win in school history — a 30-14 upset over undefeated fourth-ranked Ole Miss in Oxford, Miss., on Oct. 17, 1970.

The helmets are gold and have "USM" on the side with an oversized "S" to emphasize the "Southern." The jerseys are white with black numbers and black and gold trim.

They actually don't look bad for uniforms that are more than 40 years old, and, lucky for us, athletic director Jeff Hammond said the uniforms might make more than one appearance this season.
