Under Sonny Dykes, Louisiana Tech had the highest scoring offense in the nation this season at 51.5 points per game. At least Cal, which hired Dykes to be its new head coach, won't be boring next season.
Dykes was 22-15 in three seasons with Louisiana Tech, and built an offensive juggernaut. The Bulldogs were 9-3 this season and one of the losses was a 59-57 loss to Texas A&M, which went 10-2 in its first SEC season.
Dykes learned the "Air Raid" offense from Hal Mumme during one season at Kentucky and over seven seasons at Texas Tech with Mike Leach. He incorporated many elements of that offense into what he did at Louisiana Tech, and it could be a very effective and exciting offense at Cal with the type of skill position players the Bears can recruit.
So Dykes will be an interesting hire to track, and should inject some life into a struggling Cal program. And, can you imagine how wild the Cal-Oregon games will be for the next few years?
