Report: Florida Atlantic interviews Luke Fickell for head coaching vacancy

Less than a week after the resignation of Carl Pelini, Florida Atlantic is not wasting any time in its effort for a new head football coach.

The Orlando Sun-Sentinel is reporting that FAU athletic director Pat Chun flew to Columbus, Ohio Tuesday to interview Ohio State defensive coordinator Luke Fickell for the Owls’ head coaching position.

Fickell, who filled in as Buckeyes interim head coach in 2011 after the resignation of Jim Tressel, is considered to be Chun’s top target. Chun spent 15 years in the Ohio State athletic department, so he knows Fickell well.

Chun said Saturday that he would not comment on the FAU coaching search until a hire has been secured.

Fickell interviewed for the head coaching vacancy at Pitt after Ohio State hired Urban Meyer, but the Panthers ultimately hired Paul Chryst instead. Ohio State went 6-7 with Fickell at the helm.
