QB Johnny McCrary opts to transfer from Vanderbilt

Vanderbilt former starting quarterback Johnny McCrary will transfer, coach Derek Mason told the Nashville Tennessean.

McCrary, a redshirt sophomore, will graduate this spring and be eligible to play in 2016 as a graduate transfer.

“I wish Johnny McCrary all the best in all his future endeavors. He competed hard every day here, and he’s just a great young man,” Mason said. “I will always be in Johnny’s corner, and I’ll be watching wherever he plays next.”

McCrary started the first half of the 2015 season before being replaced by true freshman Kyle Shurmur. McCrary started 12 games in two seasons for the Commodores and passed for 2,518 yards, 15 touchdowns and 20 interceptions in 17 career games.
