Texas Tech safety Austin Stewart and a bus collided Wednesday morning while Stewart was riding his scooter on campus. According to RedRaiderSports.com, Stewart suffered minor injuries and should be OK.
Can't say the same for the bus, however.
Chris Payne, Stewart's roommate and a linebacker on the team, took a picture of the aforementioned bus and its very smashed windshield. Just from the photo it's amazing Stewart, a 6-foot-2, 200-pound junior, wasn't more seriously injured.
This wasn't a city bus, mind you. This was a campus bus that takes students from one side of campus to the other. But it was a full-sized bus and it probably scared the heebie-jeebies out of the driver and the other students.
This wasn't exactly a warm welcome to campus for Stewart, who had just finished his first spring with the Red Raiders after transferring from Pierce Community College in Woodland Hills, Calif., in January. Someone should have warned him that the Texas Tech campus buses operate with no mercy.
