It has been a good offseason for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Coming off a Sugar Bowl win over Alabama to end the 2013 campaign, the program unveiled its plans for a $370 million stadium expansion project last week and on Tuesday it was time to roll out two brand new alternate uniform combinations.

Take a look:

According to a release from Oklahoma, the uniform combinations “were inspired by the rich heritage of the state of Oklahoma and the Sooners’ storied football history.”

“The players are excited about them,” said head coach Bob Stoops. “It’s always positive to relate back to Bud Wilkinson’s era with the longest winning streak in college football history and three national championships. These uniforms give us the chance to do that.”

The new white helmets pay tribute to the national champion teams from the 1950’s while the new crimson helmet features a wood-grained design. Additionally, the word “Oklahoma” replaces “Sooners” across the chest of the new jerseys.

“Our team and our fans love the iconic look of our classic OU uniforms that the Sooners have worn dating back to the 1960s, and we’ll continue to utilize those jerseys, pants and helmets as our primary game attire,” said athletic director Joe Castiglione. “We know who we are. We’re Oklahoma. We are excited to add an additional member to our uniform family, a concept that pays homage to the proud history of the state of Oklahoma, as well as several great eras of Sooner football.”

It is not known how many times per year the Sooners will wear the alternate uniforms, but the release said they will “occasionally supplement” the team’s traditional combinations.

Before being released to the public, the Sooners got a first glimpse of the new uniforms earlier in the day and their reaction was awesome.
