Oklahoma QB Kendal Thompson arrested for public intoxication after being found passed out on a hill

Being arrested for public intoxication isn't a great development for a player looking to win a starting quarterback spot.

Oklahoma's Kendal Thompson was found in the early morning hours Friday passed out on a hill and snoring, according to SoonerScoop.com. The officers woke him, and smelled alcohol on him, the story said.

"As I was speaking with him, he was not making sense with incomplete sentences and was becoming harder to understand him," said Boxford in the affidavit, according to SoonerScoop.com.

The story said Thompson then failed to obey an officer's direction to stay seated, and that resulted in a charge of interference with the official process, along with public intoxication. SoonerScoop.com said Thompson is four days from turning 21. It's college, and being found passed out on a hill after a party isn't the biggest crime. But it might be a small setback for Thompson, who spent spring football fighting to win the starting quarterback job. Blake Bell is the favorite, but Thompson has stayed in the race by completing 11-of-17 passes for 151 yards and one touchdown in the spring game.

Last month, The Oklahoman wrote a piece on Thompson and the pressures and scrutiny that come along with playing quarterback for the Sooners. Thompson's dad is Charles Thompson, a star for Barry Switzer's teams in the 1980s who was arrested for selling cocaine and appeared in an infamous Sports Illustrated cover that set the wheels in motion for Switzer's resignation. Charles Thompson has stayed out of trouble since and turned his mistakes into a teaching point as a speaker. Charles Thompson knows about the scrutiny that comes with playing quarterback at Oklahoma, and now his son will get a taste of it.
