Nebraska LB Josh Banderas charged with felony in alleged bike thefts

Nebraska LB Josh Banderas and distance runner Lucas Keifer were charged with felony theft Tuesday in connection with the theft of seven bikes.

According to the University of Nebraska Police Department to the Lincoln Journal-Star, a witness called 911 before 5 p.m. on Tuesday after seeing two people taking bikes to a truck after using a bolt cutter to cut the locks free.

After the truck departed, Lincoln, Neb. police were then involved and the truck was pulled over a short time later. The bikes, with a value of almost $1,700, were taken from it by police, as was a bolt cutter. According to police, Keifer was driving.

Each man was released from jail on $3,500 bond. The two went to high school together at Lincoln Southwest.

Banderas played 13 games last year, starting four. He had 28 total tackles and two sacks. A four-star recruit according to Rivals, he was the No. 1 player in the state of Nebraska in the class of 2013 and the No. 14 LB in the country.

In April, LSU redshirt freshman DL Frank Herron was arrested for stealing a bicycle on the LSU campus. Herron was issued a misdemeanor summons.
