LSU’s Sam Montgomery to honor Marcus Lattimore by wearing Lattimore’s number on his arm

LSU defensive end Sam Montgomery is from South Carolina, and calls Marcus Lattimore "a dear friend."

Like most people who follow or play college football, Montgomery felt for the South Carolina running back when he suffered a serious and gruesome knee injury last week. So Montgomery decided that he will wear Lattimore's No. 21 on his arm for the rest of the season.

That's a classy move from one of the best defensive ends in college football.

"(N)ot only good player but a good man," LSU associate sports information director Bill Martin tweeted about the gesture.

Montgomery will apparently write Lattimore's number on the tape he wears on his arm. There was some speculation that Montgomery would change his uniform number to No. 21, and there is precedent for players honoring someone by changing uniform numbers, but Montgomery will stick with No. 99. LSU already has two players wearing No. 21, which might have complicated matters if Montgomery looked into it.

Either way his gesture is a nice one, and is sure to get a lot of attention during LSU's big game on Saturday.
