Let’s be honest, it’s tough to keep college football relevant in March, especially when the NCAA Tournament starts.
So, we here at Dr. Saturday decided to ask a few college football coaches to show off their basketball knowledge in Dr. Saturday inaugural bracket challenge.
LSU’s Les Miles, Louisiana Tech’s Skip Holtz and Oklahoma State’s Mike Gundy each submitted a bracket to be scrutinized, challenged and quite possibly revered by every college football (and basketball) fan in the country.
Do you know college basketball better than a football coach?
Well, here’s your chance to find out.
Every day throughout the tournament we will be updating the brackets of each coach, knocking out and advancing until there is only one coach left victorious. We’ll use the same scoring method that we use in Yahoo! Fantasy Sports’ Tourney Pick’em:
Round of 64: 1 point per correct pick (32 total points possible)
Round of 32: 2 points per correct pick (32 total points possible)
Sweet 16: 4 points per correct pick (32 total points possible)
Elite Eight: 8 points per correct pick (32 total points possible)
Final Four: 16 points per correct pick (32 total points possible)
Championship: 32 points per correct pick (32 total points possible)
Maximum Possible Points: 192 points
We’ll type out the day’s games and each coach’s pick every day to make them easier to follow, but the original brackets each coach submitted are also attached (at the top of the post) via a Flickr slideshow to hold each coach accountable for their picks all the way through the tournament.
And there are no prizes involved, just good ol' fashioned competition.
Here are the coaches picks for Thursday:
Remember to check back to Dr. Saturday throughout the day to see the results and the point tallies.
Good luck to the coaches and to those who are measuring themselves against them.
