Georgia Tech starting quarterback Vad Lee will transfer

Monday’s Music City Bowl was Vad Lee’s last game for Georgia Tech., citing multiple sources, was the first to report Thursday night that Lee, a sophomore quarterback, would transfer from the program. Lee went on to confirm the decision to ESPN’s Joe Schad.

What Lee said to Schad is perplexing. Surely he knew the offense coach Paul Johnson ran at GT when he committed, right? According to Rivals, Lee held scholarship offers from schools like Duke, Maryland, North Carolina, NC State, and South Carolina – none of whom run the triple option offense.

This season as Georgia Tech’s starter, Lee threw for 1,561 yards and 11 touchdowns while also running for 513 yards and eight touchdowns.

Jacketsonline’s report states that since Lee already burned his redshirt year, Lee will likely transfer down to a FCS program where he would be eligible to play immediately.

“Possible destinations for Lee include James Madison, Elon and Richmond, which are all closer to his hometown of Durham,” the report said.

An official announcement is expected as early as next week.
