Two weeks after announcing his intent to transfer from LSU, quarterback Hayden Rettig has found a landing spot.

Rettig, who redshirted for the Tigers in 2013, will take his talents to play for Big Ten newcomer Rutgers. The news was first reported by Fox Sports’ Bruce Feldman. Rettig then confirmed the news to Rivals and

“(Rutgers) had a great staff there, great people. I loved the university and the campus,” Rettig told “They have a great fan base. It’s a great school so I’ll get a good degree and I can help them compete for a Big Ten championship.”

The 6-foot-3, 205-pound Rettig, a native of Los Angeles, will have to sit out the upcoming season due to NCAA transfer rules and will then have three years of eligibility for the Scarlet Knights beginning with the 2015 season.

According to Feldman, he also considered Boston College, Cal, Tennessee and Louisville, but ultimately chose the Scarlet Knights after visiting campus this week. Rettig’s brother, Chase, was a three-year starter at Boston College.

Rettig didn’t see much playing time in LSU’s spring game as he fell behind Anthony Jennings and early enrollee true freshman Brandon Harris on the Tigers’ depth chart. Rettig is the second LSU quarterback to transfer this offseason after redshirt junior Stephen Rivers transferred to Vanderbilt.

At Rutgers, Rettig seems like a prime candidate for the starting role in 2015. Three-year starter Gary Nova will be a senior for the Scarlet Knights this fall. Nova has junior Mike Bimonte and redshirt freshman Chris Laviano behind him on the depth chart.

Rettig was a Rivals four-star recruit and was rated as the third-best pro-style quarterback in the class of 2013.
