Former Cal QB Zach Kline transferring to Butte College rather than Oregon State

Former Cal quarterback Zach Kline is not going to enroll at Oregon State in the fall.

Kline tweeted that he's heading to Butte College instead. The Portland Tribune reported in December that Kline told Oregon State's coaches he was heading there.

He was at an Oregon State spring practice earlier in the month but had declined an interview request from the Oregonian.

Kline was the backup to Jared Goff at Cal in 2013 and appeared in six games. Butte College is a two-year college north of Sacramento, Calif. After playing at Butte, Kline will be able to transfer back to an FBS school without having to sit out a season.

Oregon State's quarterback situation became more crowded when Luke Del Rio was granted immediate eligibility after his transfer from Alabama. Del Rio walked on with the Crimson Tide but "saw the writing on the wall" in Tuscaloosa, Ala. and decided to move on. Del Rio will be competing with two other quarterbacks for the backup job behind Sean Mannion, who was Oregon State's starting quarterback last season.

Kline was a four-star recruit out of high school and the No. 7 prospect in the state of California in the class of 2013 according to Rivals.
