Almost three months after the Florida State Seminoles knocked off Auburn to win the BCS National Championship, head coach Jimbo Fisher’s squad made a special trip on Tuesday.

Tuesday was deemed “Florida State Day,” as the team was honored by the Florida House of Representatives and Senate at the State Capitol in Tallahassee for its accomplishments and bringing the national championship back to the state of Florida.

The FSU video crew was on hand with the team to document the happenings of the day and freshman cornerback Jalen Ramsey even jokingly claimed that “this is our house” as he walked into the building.

Both Fisher and Heisman trophy winner Jameis Winston addressed the house and expressed their gratitude on behalf of the team.

“I’m happy that I was chosen out of 120 football players to speak on behalf of the team today. This has been a great experience for us seeing the genuine support that we have,” Winston said.

According to the Associated Press, Fisher presented Speaker Will Weatherford with a Florida State jersey before House members lined up to take pictures with the team. The team then “moved across the hall to be honored by the Sentate.”

“Seeing the people that make the laws and create the laws in the state of Florida and how much support we have up there -- we don’t really recognize it because we’re busy practicing and going to school,” running back Karlos Williams said. “We sometimes felt that we’re the little people, but we have such big support up there. It feels good to go up there and meet everybody and shake hands and see who’s out there supporting you and has your back.”

Based on the reactions from the players, it was clearly a cool experience, but I can’t be the only one who thought it was kind of funny that “Florida State Day” also fell on April Fools Day.
