Florida gives up 4 return TDs and commits 6 turnovers in 42-13 loss to Mizzou

If you're a Florida fan and have asked yourself if things could get worse for the Gator football team on the field, Saturday proved that yes, they can.

Against Missouri, Florida lost 42-13 at home after committing six turnovers and giving up four return touchdowns. It's the Gators' worst loss since losing to LSU 36-7 in 2002.

After a loss to Georgia Southern last year and an injury-plagued 4-8 season. Will Muschamp's status as Florida coach was in doubt. Athletic director Jeremy Foley gave him another season, and the questions about Muschamp's job have ignited once again. But instead of wondering if Muschamp will have another year, it's fair to wonder if Muschamp will even make it to the end of the season. Heck, Florida fans were openly doing that after the game. Though Muschamp said he didn't hear them.

Yes, Foley has said that he'll evaluate the team after the season. But it's hard not to take a long look at what happened at the Swamp Saturday night. On the bright side, Florida held Missouri to 119 yards of total offense and just 20 yards of passing. But there were a lot of downsides.

• Missouri's Marcus Murphy opened the game with a 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown. He wasn't touched.

• After Treon Harris fumbled -- Florida's second turnover of the night -- Murphy scored from five yards out on a running play four plays later.

• In the second quarter, Jeff Driskel threw a wobbly pass that had no clear intended target. Mizzou S Braylon Webb caught it and returned the ball to the Florida 5, though the defense held the Tigers to a field goal.

• The wheels really fell off in the third quarter. The Gators punted on the opening possession of the third and Murphy returned the punt 82 yards for his third touchdown and a 28-0 lead.

• Following another punt, Florida's next possession ended with Markus Golden returning a Driskel fumble for a touchdown and a 35-0 lead.

• And on the very next possession, Driskel threw an interception to Darvin Ruise, who jumped the route and took the ball 46 yards for a touchdown, Missouri's fourth different return TD of the night. The score was 42-0 before Florida finally got on the board.

After Ruise's pick, Driskel was benched for the rest of the game. He finished 7-19 passing for 50 yards and two interceptions. Harris, who played the rest of the game, 8-12 for 98 yards and an interception and a touchdown along with 26 rushing yards and a score on the ground.

Entering Saturday, Muschamp said he wanted to use a two-quarterback system, and while neither played well, Harris has the edge on starting against Georgia in two weeks based off his performance Saturday night. However, will Muschamp be the one making the decision?
