Eastern Michigan’s Demarius Reed found dead in apartment hallway

Demarius Reed, a junior wide receiver for the Eastern Michigan football team, was found dead Friday morning.

The university confirmed Reed's identity to MLive.com. Police said Reed was found in the hallway of his apartment building by his roommate at the University Green apartments around 7:15 a.m. Friday. Ypsilanti police Detective Sgt. Thomas Eberts said police believe the cause of death to be a gunshot wound.

Residents of the apartment complex told the Ann Arbor News that they didn't hear any shots overnight.

Reed, a native of Chicago, had started all six games for the Eagles this season. Eastern Michigan is scheduled to play Ohio Saturday at 1 p.m., but it must be awfully difficult to focus on football during these unimaginable circumstances.

Reed had 15 catches for 185 yards.

This tragedy comes a little more than a month after Quentin Wyche was convicted in the 2010 stabbing death of Florida International running back Kendall Berry outside the FIU campus recreation center.
