Duke will be without its leading rusher in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl

Duke’s offense already faced a tough task in having to contain Johnny Manziel and the Texas A&M offense in the Chick-Fil-A Bowl on New Year’s Eve, but now the Blue Devils’ defense will be shorthanded.

Jela Duncan, the team’s leading rusher, will miss the bowl game due to an academic suspension, and on top of that, he’ll reportedly miss all of next season too. The University termed the suspension as a “violation of university academic policy.”

In 13 games this season, Duncan rushed for 562 yards and three touchdowns on 113 rushes. He also had 123 receiving yards.

According to the Durham Herald Sun, the suspension is not NCAA related, but “involved Duncan not meeting Duke standards.”

The Blue Devils will have to lean on Josh Snead and Shaquille Powell to carry the load on the ground.
