Commit Desean Holmes in contact with SDSU, won't play in 2015

San Diego State has established contact with four-star wide receiver commit Desean Holmes. But Holmes won't be seeing the field for the Aztecs in 2015.

According to coach Rocky Long, Holmes wants to be with the Aztecs.

"We've talked to him," Long said via AztecSports.com. "We've actually talked to Desean - that's big progress. We talked to him and people with him a couple times since then.

"He gave us the indication he wants to show up."

Holmes, the top recruit in the Aztecs' class of 2015, had previously been "MIA" according to Long. The school had been reaching out to him in July in an attempt to know what he was up to and had been unsuccessful. Holmes won't be playing for the school in 2015 because he hasn't turned in paperwork from summer school classes and won't be in attendance for the first day of fall camp.

"There's no chance he's going to play this year because he won't be here for camp," Long said. "Hopefully he'll be here by the first day of school.

"There's some academic things he needs to provide proof of which takes some time because it comes from institutions, and all those institutions are in summer break," Long said. "So there's some academic issues that need to be resolved before he shows up."

And while contact has been established, SDSU still doesn't know why Holmes went stealth from them.

"If they don’t have an answer, or don’t want you to know the answer, they don’t say,” Long said. “You can coax them all you want. We asked, and he didn’t say.”

Holmes was verbally committed to USC in 2014. He re-opened his recruitment and signed with the Aztecs in February. A native of San Fernando, California, Holmes was the No. 26 wide receiver prospect in the class of 2015 and the No. 38 prospect in the state according to Rivals.
