Senior Day can often bring a lot of surprises and the girlfriend of Clemson offensive lineman Mason Cloy got the biggest surprise of all — a proposal.
In front of 80,000 at Memorial Stadium, Cloy dropped to one knee and his girlfriend said yes.
Cloy is actually an interesting story. Last year, he spent a month at Fort Knox, Ky., in accelerated U.S. Army leadership training. Cloy, who is in graduate school, decided that instead of pursuing a professional football career after he graduates, he would join the military.
Pro football "won't weigh into my decision," Cloy said in an Associated Press story last year. "I've already made my mind up."
Cloy's father, retired Col. Michael Cloy, spent 27 years in the Army and both of Cloy's grandfathers also served. Cloy's sister is married to an Army officer. Cloy has been a part of Clemson's ROTC program for the past two years and when he graduates, he will be commissioned as a second lieutenant.
All in all, not a bad day for Cloy, whose Tigers defeated Wake Forest to win the ACC Atlantic Division.
