Akron shows off a sharp (Photoshopped) new matte blue helmet

Akron coach Terry Bowden doesn’t use Twitter a lot — he only has five tweets to his name — but this month he’s been using it to tempt fans with new uniforms.

Earlier in the month, Bowden showed off some chrome gold helmets that matched gold uniforms and on Saturday, he showed off some blue lids to complement the Zips new look.

We were already big fans of the new “Z” logo (though it's photoshopped on the helmet in this instance), but it looks sharp on the matte blue.

Last season, Akron had the same logo in blue on matte gold helmets, so someone probably Photoshop slapped that logo on the blue helmet as a preview. Let's hope this ultimately becomes a real helmet because it looks good.

Now, if only these new helmets could help the Zips get that elusive winning season. They haven’t had one since 2005.
