Washington's Isaiah Thomas wants a shot at Kentucky in Maui

If Washington point guard Isaiah Thomas gets his wish, the Huskies won't have to wait very long to get their revenge on Kentucky for snatching two elite recruits away from them this spring.

Thomas tweeted Thursday morning begging Maui Invitational organizers to place Washington and Kentucky in the same bracket this November.

"I hope we play KENTUCKY nxt yr n the Maui classic," Thomas wrote. "All I gotta say is ITS BOUT TO GO DOWN ... A BARK over a meow ne day."

A spokesman for Maui Invitational said the actual draw won't be finalized until August, but if tournament organizers have any marketing sense whatsoever, they'll listen to Thomas' advice. The enmity between fans of Kentucky and Washington is legitimate, even if it was born on the recruiting trail rather than the basketball court.

The rivalry started when Turkish big man Enes Kanter committed to Washington and then reneged on the decision and opted for Kentucky instead once it became clear there was mutual interest between he and the Wildcats. Then McDonald's All-American Terrence Jones revealed Wednesday night he was signing with Kentucky after originally donning a Washington cap at his news conference three weeks earlier.

"Either way 1fan base was gonna hate me," Jones tweeted Wednesday night, following that up an hour later with "yeah most hated player n 2010 goes 2 me."

To his credit, Thomas quickly clarified that he's just joking around and he's not one of Jones' haters.

"Im not mad," Thomas tweeted. "There no reason I should be mad. I respect Tjones n the wildcats. I jus want 2 play them so please people who hatin fall back."

Of course, Thomas couldn't log off Twitter without delivering a few more tongue-in-cheek parting shots.

• On the possibility of facing Kentucky incoming freshman point guard Brandon Knight: "been there KILLD that lol."

• On Big Blue Nation: "That jus sounds so weird to me. who wants to be BIG and BLUE? Like the avatar? Or the blue dudes that use to be n those commercials lol??"

On John Calipari's future at Kentucky: "To be honest BIG BLUE NATION I really don't think ur coach is coming back!! ... My coach is here 4 10 more YRS hahaha yessssss."

Is Thomas acting a little immature? Of course. But it certainly adds some more dry kindling to what could be a fiery little November showdown in Maui, doesn't it?

C'mon Maui Invitational officials. Don't disappoint us.
