San Diego State’s student section buys a billboard at UNLV

Fans driving to the Thomas & Mack Center for the opening round of the Mountain West tournament on Thursday may be surprised by a roadside billboard at the intersection of Paradise Road and Harmon Ave.

It reads, "Win Win Win, Cut Down Nets" and it has a tagline of "Go Aztecs."

San Diego State's student section "The Show" raised the money to purchase the billboard and strategically chose one in the shadow of rival UNLV's campus less than one mile from its home arena. The message is a lyric from San Diego State forward Tim Shelton's Aztec-themed rap song that has become the anthem for this year's team.

San Diego State's billboard is a response to a clever prank UNLV's student section pulled when the Aztecs visited the Rebels last month.

UNLV students planted a banner underneath the section of the Thomas & Mack Center where the opposing team's crowd sits with an intentional grammatical mistake of epic proportions. It featured the San Diego State student logo and read, "THIS IS ARE HOUSE!"

The good-natured animosity between the two fan bases is one of the reasons many are hoping the Mountain West title game turns out to be a rubber match between San Diego State and UNLV. The top-seeded Aztecs and third-seeded Rebels split their two regular-season games, with each winning on their home floor.
