Needles make Derrick Rose cry

Memphis guard Derrick Rose had a little bit of a freak-out after his team's destruction of Michigan State on Friday night. Someone told him he'd need stitches to close the cut over his eye, and -- AHHHHHHH! NEEDLES!

Rose came stalking out of the locker room, yelling, ranting and on the verge of tears. He only calmed down when team officials agreed to glue the cut and forget the stitches.

“I’m terrified of needles,” he said. “If I would have got stitches, they would have had to stick a needle right above my eye. So I was pouting, stormed out of the locker room. I was mad.”

Rose's aichmophobia might seem odd to you or me, but a lot of people have irrational fears. For some, it's needles. For some, it's heights. For some, it's seals with yellow bow-ties.

It explains the rather oddly-shaped bandage he was sporting on Sunday, and if results are the best indicator, the glue was a pretty good call. It's probably best not to traumatize your point guard before the biggest game of his life.
