Dunk of the Year nominee: UMass forward Raphiael Putney’s soaring slam

Maybe Raphiael Putney shouldn't have attacked the rim with UMass comfortably ahead in the final seconds. Maybe the senior forward shouldn't have stood over an opposing player and taunted him either. Regardless, this was one heck of a dunk by Putney to cap the Minutemen's otherwise routine 85-69 victory over Youngstown State on Sunday. Putney broke free of the defense at mid-court, took off from one step inside the foul line and threw down a soaring one-handed dunk over helpless Penguins forward Josh Chojnacki, putting an exclamation point on UMass' third victory of the season. The Minutemen previously defeated Boston College and LSU. They'll open play in the Charleston Classic against Nebraska on Thursday.
