Breakfast Buffet: Kansas' Bill Self seeks to break Lubbock jinx

1. Here's a statistical oddity that's difficult to explain: Kansas is 0-3 at Texas Tech under Bill Self entering Tuesday night's matchup in Lubbock. The Jayhawks lost there in 2005, 2007 and 2009 despite winning at least a share of the Big 12 title in all three of those seasons and amassing a combined 40-8 mark in conference play.

2. It's no surprise elite Class of 2012 guard Ricky Ledo backed off his commitment to Providence on Monday considering he's switched high schools four times in four years. "I just wanted to keep looking at my options," Ledo told the Providence Journal. "It's not like Providence is off the map. I just want to look at other schools and make sure it's the best situation for me."

3. The best anecdote from this Jimmer Fredette story from his hometown newspaper is how his mom felt when BYU students rushed the court after the Cougars handed San Diego State its first loss last week. "I was so concerned, I told T.J., who was in front of me, to go down there and rescue him," she said. "He just looked at me and kind of laughed and said, ‘He'll be fine, ma.'"

4. This advice from New Mexico's Tony Snell probably won't be too encouraging for future defenders assigned the task of guarding Fredette. "Try to keep him in front of you and put a little pressure on him as best you can," Snell told after teaming with Dairese Gary to "hold" Fredette to 32 points on Saturday. "Then just pray."

5. In Jason King's excellent profile of Jared Sullinger, the Ohio State freshman explains why he has no tattoos. "I want to be different. I don't want to be the stereotypical, flashy athlete, the guy a lot of people look at and assume doesn't work hard. I've never been flashy. I never will be flashy. I don't want that."

How do you lose in regulation when you're inbounding the ball underneath your own basket in a tie game with 2.6 seconds remaining? Division III St. Lawrence found a way. Hamilton College's Ryan Wright scooped up the errant inbound pass, dribbled once to the left wing and buried the game-winning 3-pointer as time expired to give his team a 59-56 victory.

"She was at the (first) SC game wearing her big SC shirt. She made sure I saw it right after we lost, so I'm making sure we get this win so we have something to say back to her." -- UCLA big man Anthony Stover on dating a USC student. The Bruins and Trojans meet for the second time this season on Wednesday. (Los Angeles Times)
