Baylor woos coveted prospects Tyus Jones and Jahlil Okafor with live bears

Even though Baylor can't match Duke or Kansas in national championships, fan support or pedigree, coach Scott Drew found one thing his program could showcase to Tyus Jones the elite point guard prospect's other suitors could not.

Live bears. Yes, that's right, live bears.

In a blog entry on USA Today High School Sports, Jones blogged about the official visit to Baylor he and highly touted 6-foot-10 center Jahlil Okafor went on last month. Among the many highlights for Jones was meeting Baylor's two mascots, Joy and Lady.

"The crazy thing that we did on Sunday was meet the live bears," Jones wrote. "Yes, they had real bears on campus and we got to go over and feed them. I didn't know what to think at first because, I mean, they're bears, but it turned out to be pretty cool!"

Despite Jones' enthusiasm about the bears, Baylor remains a long shot to land him. Duke is the presumed favorite to secure commitments from Jones and Okafor,'s No. 5 and No. 1 recruits respectively in the Class of 2014.

Jones gave no hints as to his college destination in his blog entry, but he did continue to insist that he and Okafor intend to select the same school. He and Okafor will both visit Kansas and Duke together later this month.

"Hopefully that shows everyone that we still have the same plan to play together in college," Jones said. "That's 100 percent still the plan. I know there are a lot of rumors going around out there, but we're not paying any attention to that."
