Tiger Woods granted extension to register for PGA Championship

Tiger Woods, who withdrew from last week’s WGC-Bridgestone Invitational midway through the final round with back spasms, has asked the PGA of America for an extension to register for this week’s PGA Championship.

The deadline to register for the season’s final major was 5 p.m. (ET) on Tuesday, but Woods – who is home in Florida undergoing treatment for his ailing back – asked for additional time through his manager, Mark Steinberg, Golf Channel’s Steve Sands reported on Tuesday.

According to the PGA, Woods has until his 8:35 a.m. opening-round tee time on Thursday to register. Woods was one of six players this week to request an extension to register.

The PGA would be Woods’ fourth event since he underwent back surgery on March 31 and his last tournament to qualify for the Ryder Cup and perhaps the FedEx Cup playoffs, unless he were to add next week’s Wyndham Championship to his schedule in an attempt to make a postseason push.
