Before Johnny Manziel bagged the Heisman trophy last season, no freshman had ever won the award. Conventional wisdom suggested that at least a handful of years would pass before another took home college football's highest honor, but Florida State's Jameis Winston posted numbers in his collegiate debut that introduce serious doubt to that conventional wisdom. The redshirt freshman completed 25 of 27 pass attempts for 356 yards and five total touchdowns in the No. 11 Seminoles' season-opening 41-13 win over Pitt.
Yahoo! Sports' Pat Forde (@YahooForde) explains on SportsDash that Winston's performance is unprecedented and already has him as one of the top five candidates in this year's Heisman race.
