With the Tigers' win over the A's in Thursday night's deciding Game 5, the ALCS matchup between Detroit and Boston is set. The paths for both teams were slightly different, as the Tigers battled back from a 2-1 series deficit to advance while the Red Sox cruised past the Rays in four games, outscoring Tampa 26-12. The series starts Saturday in Boston with Anibal Sanchez on the mound for the Tigers against Jon Lester for the Red Sox.
NBCSN's baseball analyst Bobby Valentine, just a year removed from his own managerial stint in Boston, joined Dave Briggs (@davebriggstv) and Julie Donaldson (@jdonaldsonCSN) on SportsDash to analyze the matchup between these two division champs. Valentine says the Sox have a distinct advantage because their rest period has allowed them to set up their rotation. Add in what Valentine calls a superior offense and bullpen, and he's picking Boston in five.
