Report: 76ers trying to trade up for Andrew Wiggins

Andrew Wiggins' camp also believes the 76ers to be the best fit

The Sixers apparently aren't satisfied with having the Nos. 3 and 10 picks in this year's draft.

They, not surprisingly, reportedly have been trying to get No. 1 from the Cleveland Cavaliers.

According to ESPN NBA Insider Chad Ford's mock draft, the Sixers have "engaged the Cavs about moving to No. 1" -- and presumably using the first overall pick to take Andrew Wiggins. Ford has the Sixers' selecting Wiggins with the third pick but admits it's a "dream scenario" and a "godsend" and then says the Sixers have inquired about the top pick.

According to Ford, the Sixers "aren't willing" to give up both the No. 3 and No. 10 picks to land the No. 1 pick but could be willing to part with a package of the No. 3 pick and Thaddeus Young.

But that's just one interesting nugget in Ford's mock.

He also mentions that the "camp" for Wiggins prefers the Sixers as the "best possible fit." And if the Sixers can't land the top pick or Wiggins, Ford says "he's told" the Sixers will take either Joel Embiid or Jabari Parker. He also mentions Dante Exum as a dark horse but believes the Australian would have to "wow" team officials when he comes to Philadelphia for his workout next week.

Back to the first point. Could the Sixers trade up two spots?

CSNPhilly.com's John Gonzalez last week wrote a detailed story looking into potential trade partners for the Sixers, who have the picks and cap space to make a considerable amount of noise at the draft. He mentioned the Cavaliers as a possible partner but doubts the No. 3 and Young would be enough to land the top pick, writing: The starting point is probably the No. 3 and the No. 10. The Sixers might have to throw in some of those second-rounders to make it happen. Or even Thad Young.

This isn't the first we've heard about the Sixers' badly wanting Wiggins. While they're apparently now saying they won't be willing to part with two top-10 picks to land Wiggins (or whomever they would want to draft with the top pick), it would be interesting to see if their trade offers get more generous as the draft nears.
