Visualized data is one of the best parts of browsing the web, and there are so many maps and graphs available now that it's hard to stand out in the crowd. But Mitchell & Ness dropped a map yesterday that caught our attention. The vintage sports clothing company's map shows their best-selling jersey in each state. While some of the states' top picks aren't too surprising (like Joe Montana in California or Larry Bird in Boston), others are completely perplexing. For instance, Joe Namath's Jets jersey is the most popular jersey in Iowa. Vince Carter's Toronto Raptors jersey is a hit in Connecticut. Ryne Sandberg's Cubs jersey rules over Alabama. Kobe Bryant is the man in seven states that aren't California. We don't understand this map at all, but that's what makes it awesome.
When Paul Pierce pushed Omri Casspi into a small girl in the stands earlier this week, Pierce was not super popular on social media. Casspi was a partial victim in the incident, but he felt guilty enough that he needed to do something for that little girl. So he got her some dolls from the movie Frozen and now he's already way cooler than Pierce. Not as cool as he'd be if he also taped himself singing a song from the movie with her, but still pretty cool.
The Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies launched the boldest, and perhaps the most short-lived promotional campaign, on Tuesday when they announced they'd be giving away Astros 2017 World Series replica rings to fans on Aug. 15. Within a few hours, the promotion was cancelled so as not to "jinx" the parent club. Oh well, it was fun while it lasted.
