The Eagles on Tuesday traded veteran defensive tackle Isaac Sopoaga and a 2014 sixth-round pick to the Patriots in exchange for a 2014 fifth-round pick. The Eagles signed Sopoaga in March to a three-year deal worth $11.0035 million. They paid him $2.75 million in a roster bonus and $529,412 of his 2013 base salary of $1 million, or 9/17ths of $1 million. Sopoaga is due $3.75 million in 2014 and $3.5 million in 2015. The Patriots will assume responsibility for the $1 million guaranteed in Sopoaga’s 2014 contract.

Sopoaga played 237 snaps in the Eagles’ first eight games and was credited with 18 tackles, one for loss, and three hurries. The move frees up rookie third-round pick Bennie Logan to play more, and the Eagles also plan to get Damion Square more playing time. Sopoaga, one of the few veterans on the defense, is in his 10th NFL season. He spent nine years with the 49ers and played in the Super Bowl with the Niners last year.
