Soon after Yahoo! Sports’ Adrian Wojnarowski reported that Brandon Jennings would be heading to the Detroit Pistons in a sign-and-trade deal on Tuesday afternoon, and before the smart analysis set in, a photo of a young Jennings wearing a throwback Grant Hill Detroit Pistons jersey began making the rounds:
In the immediate aftermath of Michael Jordan’s first retirement, Grant Hill seemed like the perfect go-to candidate to lead the league into its next era. An all-around demon with an ACC pedigree and a smile that sold Sprite bottles by the thousands, Hill’s mixture of class and on-court artistry made him the perfect choice for any thoughtful parent looking to outfit their child with an expensive NBA relic. And the classic red, white and blue designs of the jersey Jennings is sporting (only worn during Hill’s first two seasons) only added to the sound choice; made before the Pistons went all teal and terrible.
Sound move, Jennings family. Even if you’re from Los Angeles, and Brandon was born the year that Detroit downed the Los Angeles Lakers in for their first NBA title in 1989.
