Richard Childress Racing cars top the charts at Preseason Thunder

Sprint Cup Series cars finally got on the track Friday at Daytona's Preseason Thunder and it was Richard Childress Racing's show.

Three of RCR's four teams occupied the top three spots on the scoring pylon Friday. Austin Dillon was tops with a lap of 195.101 MPH and he was followed by Brian Scott and Matt Crafton.

Scott is running the Daytona 500 in RCR's No. 33 car. That's the part time car that Dillon made five starts in last season. Dillon will run full-time in the No. 3 this season. Crafton was in Paul Menard's No. 27 after a pipe burst at Menard's house and he returned home to deal with the aftermath. At least Menard has connections to get all the stuff he needs to clean up any damage.

After rain washed out the first day of Preseason Thunder on Thursday, it delayed the start of Friday's session, which was extended to 9 p.m. ET. Most of Friday was dominated by single car runs, though a group of six cars drafted for a little over 10 minutes just before 8 p.m. ET. That drafting started, of course, right before Fox Sports 1's television coverage ended at 8.

However, none of the speeds that the cars in the draft posted were faster than the speeds put up by the RCR cars.

The fastest non-RCR car was Aric Almirola -- that speed was in the draft. Kyle Larson rounded out the top five.

The Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series will test at Daytona on Saturday and Sunday.
